On the 8th of September, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Ingrid van Engelshoven, received the new National Roadmap for Large-Scale Research Infrastructure. This Roadmap presents the proposals of nine Groups that contribute to innovation in science research. The proposals in the Roadmap focus on the development of large-scale infrastructure research through highly specialised material equipment or virtual facilities, such as ODISSEI’s data infrastructure for the social sciences.
As one of the awarded projects, ODISSEI was part of the Roadmap offered to Minister van Engelshoven. ODISSEI Scientific Director Pearl Dykstra presented ODISSEI at the event. She shared ODISSEI’s mission in the social sciences, the way that ODISSEI guarantees the protection of privacy in data collections and research, and the infrastructure’s future research opportunities and plans. All the awarded projects can now also be watched online.
The NWO, the Dutch Science Council, noted about the Roadmap that “a large-scale research infrastructure is essential to the position of Dutch science: it makes a significant contribution to innovation and helps solve major social issues related to the environment, the climate, health and civilisation”.
ODISSEI’s Roadmap plans present the next milestone in terms of long-term strategy in the field of social sciences, which could result in major breakthroughs and contribute to further understanding and the solution of large-scale social problems.
