Are you—or do you know—someone making a difference through Open Science in computational social sciences research in the Netherlands?

ODISSEI is pleased to announce the second edition of the Open Science Award, celebrating outstanding contributions that promote transparency, reproducibility, and reusability in computational social science research.

The award will recognize an individual or team who has gone above and beyond in making their research outputs—such as data, code, or tools—open, FAIR, and impactful.

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for nominees who demonstrate: 

• Positive impact on the community or research culture
• Innovative ways of enabling open, scientific collaboration 
• Reusability and reproducibility of research, especially when using restricted-access data
• Sharing of data, code, or research outputs, which, in line with ODISSEI’s mission, is “as open as possible, as closed as necessary”

Who Can Be Nominated?

Individuals or teams 

• Working in computational social sciences
• Who have a demonstrable link to the Dutch research ecosystem

Both self-nominations and third-party nominations are welcome. Winners of previous editions cannot nominate themselves for the same project.

Evaluation

The nominations will be evaluated by a committee consisting of experts appointed by the ODISSEI Management Board.

The following criteria will be evaluated by each committee member and will weigh equally towards the final score:

1. Transparency: Are the research outputs (e.g., data, code, workflows) openly shared and easy to access and use? Can others build on, reproduce, or adapt the work?

2. FAIR Principles: Does the work demonstrate uptake of the FAIR principles: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable?

3. Innovation: Does the submission demonstrate creative or novel approaches to enabling open scientific collaboration, sharing of research materials (data, software, etc), or outreach activities?

4. Impact: What is the contribution of the work to the broader research community, culture, or society?

Award Ceremony

The winner will be announced at the ODISSEI Conference 2026 on 24 November 2026 at Jaarbeurs, Utrecht. The winner(s) will receive an award and will be invited to record an episode of the ODISSEI podcast to tell more about their Open Science contribution.
