CBS Microdata access

ODISSEI facilitates access to CBS microdata and works together with CBS on removing barriers for (potential) users. ODISSEI finances innovations in the CBS Microdata Environment (e.g. user-friendly self-service portal, development of automatic output control) and provides financial support for individual researchers and projects. These facilities are accessible to ODISSEI Member Organisations.

Together with CBS, we offer the Microdata Access Programme which supports working with the CBS microdata.

See the available opportunities below.

  • Microdata Access Grant (MAG)
This Microdata Access Grant (MAG) call offers funding for six CBS microdata projects for researchers working at ODISSEI member organisations.
  • Free registration users for ODISSEI member organisations
ODISSEI member organisations can request the free addition of early career researchers to existing CBS microdata projects.
  • CBS Data Storage
Using the CBS Data Storage, researchers at ODISSEI member organisations can store large files made up of only CBS microdata for free.

Conducting research with CBS microdata

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) collects a wide range of data for its statistical tasks, many of them microdata at the level of individual persons or organisations. Protection of the confidentiality of the data is the highest priority for CBS. Within strict safety conditions, however, universities and other authorized research institutes can get access to the microdata environment to perform statistical analyses for their own scientific or statistical purposes. The microdata themselves remain strictly within a secure environment within CBS. Under applicable conditions, the researcher can also bring in additional datasets to be linked with CBS microdata. Before aggregate statistical results are exported from the secured environment, CBS will check whether these results do not contain any risk for disclosure of information on individual persons or organisations.
