Strategic development

ODISSEI (Open Data Infrastructure for Social Science and Economic Innovations) leads innovative projects to enhance research in the social sciences and humanities.

Supported by significant funding from the Dutch Research Council (NWO), ODISSEI advances computational social science through the NWO Roadmap for Large-scale Research Infrastructures, involving 34 partner organisations. This effort, structured around four work streams — Data Facility, Observatory, Laboratory, and Hub—focuses on secure data access, sustaining data collections, leveraging digital technologies, and developing advanced modeling skills. Recognised as a pioneering effort, ODISSEI provides essential resources for understanding complex social phenomena and addressing contemporary challenges, solidifying the Netherlands’ leadership in this field.

Additionally, ODISSEI collaborates with CLARIAH and fifteen national partners on the Social Science and Humanities Open Cloud for the Netherlands (SSHOC-NL). This €15.2 million initiative creates a secure digital infrastructure for linking and analysing diverse data sets, facilitating interdisciplinary research on issues like polarisation, social inequalities, and environmental change.
