LISS panel Access

The LISS panel (Longitudinal Internet Studies for the Social Sciences) is based on a true probability sample of households, drawn from the population register by Statistics Netherlands. It consists of 5,000 households, comprising approximately 7,500 individuals of 16 years and older. Self-registration is not possible, participation is invite-based only.

The LISS panel allows scientific researchers and policymakers to collect data from individuals, primarily for experimental social, economic, and behavioural research. However, researchers from other disciplines such as health, humanities, and digital sciences also make use of the LISS panel.

The LISS panel Grant

The LISS panel Grant offers financing for data collection via LISS panel. Through this grant, scientists receive free panel time to field their own questions /experiments. The submissions are assessed by an independent and interdisciplinary committee.

The 2024 ODISSEI LISS panel Grant call is now open and will close on the 20th of September 2024, 15:00 CE(S)T. The projects will be fielded in 2025.

For whom?
For researchers employed by ODISSEI member organisations. Early-career researchers are encouraged to apply.

What can be applied for?
There is a budget available for up to five regular LISS panel Grants and one project that combines the LISS panel data with CBS microdata. The latter grant offers an opportunity to enrich the survey data collected through the LISS panel with CBS microdata, executed in the CBS Remote Access environment of CBS.

How does it work?
For both the regular LISS projects and the project that utilizes the linkage with CBS microdata, the LISS component entails a net response of 2,000 respondents and 10 minutes of panel time. As a general rule, this translates to approximately 30 survey question items for simple (‘yes/no’) questions or statements. In case more respondents are requested or needed, the available panel time of 10 minutes needs to be cut down.

Earlier rounds and previously granted projects 

ODISSEI has been offering the LISS panel Grants since 2018. In this period, three regular and one specific corona-related grant were launched and in total, 42 regular LISS panel Grants and 2 corona grants were awarded. In each call round, ODISSEI receives between 30 to 40 applications. Follow the link below for the overview of the awarded projects.
