Explaining global citizenship

    With reaching global development goals being dependent on the actions of all sectors and actors in society, it is imperative to understand the engagement of ordinary citizens with international poverty and development. Understanding citizens’ engagement in turn requires a broad perspective on global citizenship behaviours and a less fragmented measurement of prosocial behaviour than is common. This proposal enriches the LISS panel questionnaire with a recently developed measuring instrument examining public engagement with global development which up to now has been applied in four countries. Doing so allows for a comparative analysis of the Dutch public with findings from Great Britain, Germany, France and the United States. Simultaneously, the LISS panel enriches our understanding by allowing us to analyse citizen engagement from a family socialisation perspective.
