European Social Survey (ESS) Community Conference 2025

With the first release of the 11^th wave of the European Social Survey, we would like to announce a Community Conference of the European Social Survey Netherlands. The conference will take place on the 27th of March 2025, the location will be available shortly.

The Call for Papers will open on September 1 and close on October 15. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by November 15. Please, keep an eye on this page for more information about the Call for Papers and the event. 

About the conference

During this conference, we invite colleagues from all disciplines (political science, sociology, economics, marketing, criminology, …) using the European Social Survey to leverage our understanding of the social world, or to leverage methodological innovations in studying the social world, with a particular Dutch angle. Contributions using ESS data can be either comparative or longitudinal, for as long as they lead to a better understanding of the Dutch moral landscape. Methodological contributions should focus on how the collection and analysis of Dutch ESS data can be improved in the future.

This Conference builds on earlier initiatives that led to edited volumes, such as ‘Nederland in de Jaren Nul’ (Aarts & Wittenberg, 2012), and ‘Stabiliteit en verandering in Europa’ (Aarts & Wittenberg, 2013). In case of coherent contributions, we will approach authors to contribute to a similar Open Access volume. While the conference will be in English, for sake of public dissemination purposes the conference volume will be in Dutch.
